DAY 2
I am starting to think that one of the main merits of this work will not be my exposing of the spectrum to the public, but in fact the public’s exposure to me. On Sunday night, I met a fellow who has been in Montreal quite some time, maybe his whole life. He explained to me that Cabot Square used to be the streetcar terminus for this end of the city. There’s much more stuff about it here at the Wikipedia page - interesting stuff. Sad part about it is this guy has lots of old bit and pieces of the train, and when he has talked to the city about displaying it at Cabot Square, they basically ignored him. When I talked to Tanya, my girlfriend about it (a native Montrealer) she had no idea there was a streetcar service - I’m sure she’s not the only one.
One thing that has been really hard to nail down here and start making contacts is that it is really noisy - I hadnt really anticipated exactly how much concentration I was using in a small quiet room (my studio) now that I am out here, I am realizing it is waay more difficult in the ‘open air’. Anyway, 20 meters looks like it is really pumping right now, so Im going to see what I can catch.
